Green Building Rating Systems
Nowadays there are numerous rating systems being developed in order to evaluate existing buildings according to its environmental effects to create sustainable buildings. These systems, by defining the characteristics of the buildings, has the largest share in the provision and evaluation of sustainability are named as "green building assessment / rating systems". In our day, several different countries have developed their own green building certifications and brought them into use. The most commonly known systems are;
- BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), developed in England in 1990
- LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed in USA in 1998.
- EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies ), developed by International Finance Corporation, IFC
- B.E.S.T (Ecological and Sustainable Design in Buildings) developed by ÇEDBİK (Turkish Green Building Council) in Turkey in 2015.
- Yeşil Sertifika (YeS-TR) developed by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in Turkey in 2017.
