Sustainability
The term "sustainability" first appeared in World Charter for Nature, which was declared in 1982 by International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). In this declaration it is stated that
" the ecosystem, the organisms, the land , the sea and the atmospheric resources, from which humans benefit from, should be managed in an optimized level for the sustainability of systems without having to jeopardize the unity of ecosystems and species."
In 1987, in a UN General Assembly meeting which the Prime Minister of Norway, Gro Harlem Brundtland, was leading; World Commission of Environment and Development (WCED) defined sustainable development as
"satisfying the needs of today without compromising the needs of generations to come".
In respect to this approach; the main factors under the notion of sustainable development are as follows,Limited resources, Energy Consumption, Environmental Pollution, Urbanization, Over population.
The main aim of Sustainable Architecture is to provide a better life to human kind without having to risk the balance of eco systems and improving the environmental quality by having long term solutions.
Sustainable architecture can only be materialized by improvements in design and the construction methods. In order to avoid the negative effects of the built environment, and maintain the energy and the balance of the ecosystems, the collective thinking system of sustainable architecture will be answer.
